On the occasion of International Women’s Day: Statement by the Iraqi Women’s Network on March 8, 2024
The Iraqi Women’s Network extends its warmest congratulations to Iraqi women in particular, and women of the world in general, on the occasion of the eighth of March, International Women’s Day, a symbol of the continuing struggle of the women of the world to eliminate all forms of violence and discrimination against them, to reach full equality of rights and equal opportunities between men and women in all fields. .
We celebrate this day, and renew our solidarity with our sisters in Palestine, as they face the Zionist occupation forces in the war of extermination that they impose on the people of Gaza, and endure hunger, displacement, killing, abuse, loss of precious and precious things, and deprivation of basic rights, in light of the silence of the world. We call for serious work to immediately stop the war and open the crossings to deliver humanitarian aid to women and children as quickly as possible.
We still face major challenges in protection mechanisms and law enforcement, and we suffer from the dangers of the spread of weapons, the dominance of male thought, a decline in preserving gains, and the consolidation of harmful practices such as marrying girls and marriage outside the framework of the court, with an increase in levels of domestic violence, the fragility of the economic situation of women and their poverty, and the impact of political changes. security and climate issues, and a decline in and widening gap in managing public affairs and occupying decision-making positions.
We look forward to implementing the National Strategy for Iraqi Women (2023-2030), which was approved by the Iraqi government, setting a timetable for its implementation, and activating the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs, as a national mechanism to advance the status of Iraqi women, ensuring the provision of the necessary financial and human resources for them, and working in accordance with a comprehensive national vision to reduce Violence and discrimination against women and the implementation of the National Plan for Resolution 1325, to enhance the role of women in achieving stability and building security, peace, development, and social justice, and issuing effective legislation and laws that protect women and ensure that they live in dignity and security, and that there is no impunity for perpetrators of crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault, in line with the principles of The Constitution and Iraq’s international obligations.
Glory and eternity to the martyrs of the struggle to achieve a state of citizenship and social justice
