Education in Iraq and school violence

Al-Nidal Association held a dialogue session entitled (Education in Iraq and School Violence), within the program of the seventh season of the Iraqi Social Forum, in the halls of the Baghdad Academy for Human Sciences on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

He supervised the facilitation of the session:
– Researcher: Maysam Ghani Speaking.
– Researcher: Rahma Wamd Speaking.
– Mrs. Sarah Jassim | Session rapporteur.

The session covered many topics, including:
– School violence and its types.
– The effects and harms of school violence. Its negative impact on the educational community.

Several recommendations were made and submitted to the administration of the forum and the association, which are:
1. Training new teachers and teachers on communication skills, dealings, and rights regarding their profession during the summer vacation through training centers provided by the Ministry of Education.
2. Providing a listening room for professors, a specialized psychiatrist or psychological researcher, and an educational counselor to reduce the pressure on their work and their problems, as is the case for school students.
3. Activating the Discipline Committee in secondary schools and the expulsion decision to help teachers use it when dealing with unruly students and not using violence.
4. Introducing moral education into the school curricula.
5. Closing the gaps between cadres, government schools, and parents by activating membership in civil society organizations that serve as a link between them within the parent-teacher councils.
6. Facilitating the tasks and orders of civil society organizations by the Ministry of Education, especially organizations that aim to develop and qualify the capabilities of cadres and students.
7. Intensifying the role of community police in schools through forums established in the regions to follow up on issues of school violence.

Last but not least, the session ended with these recommendations and possible opportunities to implement them in a way that serves society.
