Al-Nidal Association holds a dialogue session for civil society organizations in Baghdad

The Al-Nidal Association for Human Rights, with the support of the Iraqi Al-Amal Association, within the Defenders Protection Program and with direct funding from the European Union, held a dialogue session with civil society organizations working in the field of human rights, yesterday, Thursday, March 31, in the association’s hall. Iraqi Hope in the capital, Baghdad, in the presence of 32 participants from the governorates (Baghdad, Babylon, Anbar, Diyala) and with different specializations.

During the session, we discussed the most prominent challenges and risks faced by actors in the field of defending human rights, whether individuals or institutions, including (restriction on the work of organizations in some governorates, security risks to which actors are exposed, defamation and defamation campaigns, and exploitation of some legal materials against activists).

In addition to a discussion of the draft “Combating Cybercrime” law and the legal articles it contains, some of which conflict with many articles of the law from the effective Iraqi constitution and international treaties and agreements to which Iraq has committed, restricting freedoms and rights.

At the conclusion of the session, the attendees agreed on a set of recommendations and proposals that would enhance the reality of human rights and public freedoms in Iraq.
