From Nasiriyah: Sama, Al-Nidal, and Al-Hiwar Al-Mutamaddin, organizations concerned with human rights discuss possible amendments to the law on freedom of expression, assembly, and peaceful demonstration.
Sama Organization for Psychosocial Support, in cooperation with the Struggle Association for Human Rights and the Civilized Dialogue Organization for Development, organized the second dialogue session in the city of #Nasiriyah with officials, decision-makers, activists, local organizations, and a number of candidates for the Iraqi Parliament. The draft amendment to freedom of expression, assembly, and peaceful demonstration was discussed, and recommendations were made. This session is one of Watina’s campaign to amend the draft freedom of expression, which will be held in four Iraqi governorates to pressure Parliament and the Iraqi government committees to amend the articles that conflict with the origin of the right and the principles of universal human rights in the draft law on freedom of expression.
This project is part of the Innovation Network for Change in the Middle East and North Africa activity “Training the Trainers to Accelerate Campaigns” in cooperation with the Gulf Center for Human Rights, within the network’s main pillars: sustainability, providing civil society with resources, and working on advocacy and campaigns.
