The disappearance of environmental activist Jassem Al-Asadi
Al-Nidal Association notes with great concern the continued exposure of activists and human rights defenders in Iraq to intimidation, intimidation, and kidnapping.
The association is deeply concerned about the disappearance of the Iraqi environmental activist (Jassem Al-Asadi) by an unknown party near the southern entrance to Baghdad, several days ago, according to what his brother announced. There is no information available yet about the party responsible for the incident.
It is worth noting that Al-Asadi is one of the most prominent environmental activists and defenders of environmental rights in Iraq.
We remind the government of its responsibilities to provide protection and respect for human rights and defenders working in this field in accordance with its international contractual obligations and in implementation of local laws, most notably the Iraqi Constitution, and we strongly condemn the disappearance, intimidation and threats carried out by unknown parties against defenders and activists.
We call on the authorities to investigate immediately and urgently in order to identify the kidnapper and reveal the fate of the disappeared person.
